The church in the painting is situated in an unknown location, but the specifics, as usual, were not important to Subbi. He hid the building behind trees to make its identification even harder. The chessboard in front of the church and the colourful tricolours stress the importance of colour rather than reality, and the church walls acquire a new meaning as a glowing red background. The road leading into the depth of the picture is familiar from other paintings by Subbi, alluding to spatial and temporal perspectives.
