Afternoon

Olev Subbi Afternoon 2012 Acrylic and oil on hardboard 51.3 × 36.7 cm

This painting was created by Olev Subbi after some serious health problems. It is a reawakening and a comeback, for which the artist chose what was most important to him: colour planes without a narrative. He dived into colours, which were his passion throughout his life and which he studied endlessly and tirelessly. Another axis or mood in the painting, known for decades in Subbi’s oeuvre, is nostalgia or yearning for something abstract. In the depth of the space, we see openness and light and the sea on the horizon, inviting us to go through the greenish arch to explore the unknown future or perhaps the familiar past.
