August Pulst (1889–1977)

August Pulst was a highly productive painter as well as an antiques researcher, collector of folk music and scenographer. He was born in Tori, Pärnumaa county, studied in Riga, and worked in Tallinn as a set designer while also being active as a painter. Pulst was a founding member of several museums: the Art Museum of Estonia and the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum were established largely upon his initiative.

As a painter he was more active in the second half of the 20th century, and participated in exhibitions mainly with his watercolours. He found motifs for his art in everyday life and his immediate surroundings, e.g. in his home neighbourhood Merivälja.
