Eduard Rüga (1903–1997)

Like many other first and second-generation Estonian artists, Eduard Rüga came from South-Estonia. He began his studies at the Pallas Art School at the age of 25 and studied both painting and graphic art, but focussed more on the latter. In the late 1930s, his coloured prints attracted attention in Estonia as well as abroad. During World War II Rüga left Estonia and via Germany ended up in the USA, where he stayed for the rest of his life. He continued making art in various genres and participated in a number of exhibitions.
