Eduard Ole spent his childhood in Valga but he studied art in Penza, Russia instead. When he returned to Estonia, he took a job as a teacher, yet was among other things one of the more active members of a group of Cubists known as the Eesti Kunstnikkude Rühm [Grouping of Estonian Artists]. Ole proceeded towards a considerably more realistic style of treatment in later decades. Ole fled during the Second World War, first to Finland and from there to Sweden, where he lived for the rest of his life.
