Amandus Adamson was 73 years old at the time he completed this painting yet he continued to work very zealously. Naturally, he was active primarily in sculpture, yet his first paintings are known from the 1890’s already. True, the total number of his paintings is extremely small. The subjects of his works were pervasively views of the sea and the seacoast, which were mostly completed in his home region in Paldiski and on Pakri Island, yet Voldemar Vaga writes: “During the last years of his life, the artist adorned the walls of his office beside his Paldiski studio with large paintings depicting Italian seacoasts.”
