Olev Subbi

I want to create another world, which exists as solidly as ours and obeys the rules that are slightly familiar to us. But a parallel world is not an ideal world – its landscapes and people are not better than those we have here. They are simply on the other side of a gossamer wall, which cannot be penetrated.

Eero Epner has written the artist Olev Subbi’s biography, relying on various materials, interviews with people who were close to Subbi, and Olev Subbi’s archive.

This nearly 500-page work brings together his ideas on art, which had previously been published in various scattered publications. Additionally, Olev Subbi’s friends Enn Põldroos, Enn Kunila, Ants Wõrk and others share their memories of him.

The book is 2nd enlarged edition and also includes numerous reproductions of works from 1962–2007.

Why am I a painter? Because no other work would have given me as great pleasure as this.
